The Star; “slugger” Sees a Wyrmling; Just Gonna Sneak In Here

☕ Start of session

The party has done basic recon, and has noted that a moving star/comet has gotten consistently brighter and closer to the overhead position. Estimated time before it is directly overhead: 3 hours

7 AM

Having performed general recon of the area except for the observatory in the NE corner, the gang decided to activate the bridge and cross over; Vera would go invisible and tiptoe over in case the activation alerted Sparkrender (who was in the observatory).

Vera inserted a moonstone and the bridge activated. She walked over to the main platform - no Sparkrender in sight.

The golden sculpture seemed to be slowly moving. Upon investigation, Vera noticed that it seemed to model the planetary system, including the star/comet above.

Elmer and Michael walked over the bridge. Elmer had cast Detect Magic as a ritual (no prep needed). He detected Divination magic around the golden sculpture, and conjuration + necromancy magic around the dragon effigies

Michael walked over to the library (SW), using another moonstone, and discovered a small black-cover journal. Elmer noticed that the lock had a magical trap rune, which was easily scratched out. Michael broke the lock with a shortsword swipe. The journal contained an underlined passage on an early page, with no further underlined passages:

“To ye four scholars: point your eyes toward the Dragon’s light, for it guides your descent into knowledge.”

“slugger” flew up toward the observatory and inward through a window near the top. Sparkrender was looking out a telescope.

What was seen in the observatory:

7:30 AM

30 minutes left on Invisibility; Detect Magic done; 2:30 until comet overhead

As “slugger” left, Vera snuck up the ramp into the observatory and Sparkrender started to walk down to the main floor.

As she did so, Elmer muttered “be vewy vewy quiet”, maybe more to himself than anyone in particular.

Michael struggled internally to not just charge in, as he’d been restraining himself this whole time. Be cool Michael, be cool.

Vera started up the wooden steps, but Sparkrender turned the northernmost statue to point the same way as the others. It rumbled and scraped open, revealing a stairway downward.

Vera chased after, staying out of the wyrmling’s blindsight range, as the statue closed up behind them. At the bottom of the stairs, she stepped into an office.
