Soot; Carnival Games; Flight of the Dragonflies
Thanks to C & G for joining as Soot!
☕ Start of session
The party has finished their Snail Racing, and as they leave they come across Soot, an eccentric Tiefling who greets them and asks that the party join their cause. The party says they’ll consider it and ask if Soot would like to join them as they continue to check out the carnival, which Soot agrees to.
Walkin’ around
A giant walking tree (which Vera acknowledges and compliments) strides by, with a squirrel aboard on one of its branches. Seeds flutter everywhere as the tree marches down the main thoroughfare! The party tries to catch some, but even with the help of magic, doesn’t have much luck.

“You are easily amused”, says Soot.
As the tree passes, the squirrel scampers around and hands (matured) dandelions out to carnival-goers, including the party. Elmer has dashed away to use the restroom, but Michael, Soot, and Vera each make wishes to themselves.
Small stalls
The party plays various games at the small stalls.
- Michael loses a starting contest with a cyclops
- Vera nails the ring toss with help of unseen servant
- Soot guesses the number of feathers correctly: 7,777
- Elmer catches the dragon by the tail
- Soot poetically vanquishes a gnome
- Vera has no luck wrestling a goblin, who uses a straightforward hold position

Prizes for the party include:
- Vera, Elmer, and Soot
- Packet of Pixie Dust (1 each)
- Vera
- Single application of magic face paint
- Soot
- Cuddly toy spider
Mines away
The party heads to the Mystery Mine.
They are asked to look into the all-seeing eye before the ride. Michael beats it in a staring contest.
The ride takes the characters on a journey that includes some of their greatest fears. Except for Michael - Michael’s having a great time.
Dragonflies away!
The party heads to the Dragonfly Rides. The names for these are all very cool and normal. Soot enjoys identifying the Dragonflies, and points out a favorite, a Twelve-Spotted Skimmer.
As they all start to board their dragonflies, one dragonfly appears to get spooked, taking off before its rider (a dwarf) is fully buckled in. The party notices a shadowy figure running away from the dragonfly’s launch spot.
Elmer, with help from “slugger”, tails the shadowy figure on foot.
Michael stays aboard his dragonfly and uses hunter’s mark to keep track of the shadowy figure from the air.
Vera and Soot chase the dragonfly + dwarf. As the dwarf is bucked off, Soot throws pixie dust at him, freezing him midair and scooping him aboard Soot’s own dragonfly.
Vera follows the spooked dragonfly, wrangling it and ending up in a kind of dragonfly-skiing position with her original dragonfly and the new one.
The dwarf recognizes Soot from the poetry session earlier and immediately expresses interest in Soot’s recruitment efforts. They walk off into the crowd having a nice chat.
The rest of the party eyes their shadowy target.
